MWUN Mourns Demise Of Deputy President General From NPA Branch

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has lost one of its own, Comrade Taofeek Dabiri, who until his painful death served as Deputy President General (DPG) in the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) branch.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, Comrade Dabiri was a jolly good fellow whose lifestyle did not reflect his tribe at all, given his mode of dressing from day to day—until he fell ill and that illness eventually claimed his life.

The late Comrade Dabiri was dark-complexioned and lanky, every comrade’s delight, particularly among his contemporaries at the highest echelons of the union.He was a comrade par excellence who commanded dignity.

He earned respect through his orderly behavior and good manners; he was respectful to colleagues no matter their rank.He was lovable and likable by all and sundry.

He had an adoring, top-notch personality that you simply could not take away from the late Comrade Dabiri—a quality very uncommon in humans. His level of life and relationships with people among his colleagues was indescribable.Most comrades in the union, and even visitors, often mistook him for a man from the Niger Delta or the eastern part of Nigeria.

Comrade Dabiri was a man of rare quality and taste—a very rare breed—whose presence anywhere lightened the mood of a place or gathering in a positive way.The President-General of MWUN, Comrade Bunu, could not hold back his tears.

He appeared wan within the short period since losing Comrade Dabiri, one of his most reliable and trusted allies in the union.The maritime labour activist and reformer was quoted as saying he “could not hold back his love for the departed Dabiri,” describing him as a man of honour who would always respond to his beck and call at any time.

The MWUN PG further described Dabiri as a “good man” whose exemplary life, which cut across borders, would be very difficult to erase from his memories—or those of the entire Maritime Workers’ Union officers and members, even in years to come.

The activist said Comrade Dabiri would continue to remain evergreen in their memories as the union carries out its daily activities. He prayed for the soul of the reposed Dabiri, seeking mercy from Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannah, while also asking the Almighty God to preserve and have mercy on his immediate family, which he left behind.
