MWUN Gets N15m Entitlement For Physically Challenged Josepdam Worker

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has secured an entitlement worth N15 million for Comrade. Sunday Osunsan, a dockworker who sustained injury resulting to permanent disability in the line of duty in 2008.

The injured dockworker who was engaged by
Josepdam Port Services Nigeria Limited,
sustained the injury in December 2008 while in active service.

Josepdam Port Services is the operators of Terminal A at the Tin Can Island Port , Apapa Lagos Nigeria.

In a letter addressed to the President General of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, the port concessionaire said that as a result of the meeting held with the union, it has decided to pay Mr. David Sunday Osunsan the sum of N15 million owing to industrial accident he sustained in the line of duty.

Mr. Simon Travers Managing Director of Josepdam who signed the letter, said the amount covered the retirement/gratutiy benefits, insurance cover for the disabled worker in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement ((CBA) with the union.

“Based on deliberations of meeting held with your Executive at the Union National Secretariat on Thursday, 13 February, 2020, our Management has decided to review upward the overall settlement for the above named injured staff to the sum of Fifteen Million Naira (-N15m); as agreed.

“We wish to inform you that after due consultation with the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and consideration on the above subject, we have agreed to pay you retirement gratuity benefit as stated below:

Retirement Gratuity Benefit (Computed using MWUN 2018 CBA). TOTAL NI,459,022.00. (One Milion, Four Hundred and Fifty-nine Thousand, and Twenty-two Naira only)

“Please note that your Retirement Gratuity benefit as stated above represent complete settlement of your benefit and in that regard, you hereby waive any right, interest, claim and/or benefit against

“Therefore, Josepdam Port Services Nigeria Limited is hereby completely discharged and released from claims of sums of money. Causes of actions, proceedings, demands, liabilities ot whatsoever and howsoever arising in respect of your former contract of employment with the company..
