MWUN End-Of-Year Bash Honours Adele, Matina, Ekpo , Mistura , Others With Cash Awards

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), led by President-General Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, hosted an unprecedented end-of-year party on Friday, December 19, 2025, celebrating workers, staff, and executives in grand style.

Amid the festivities marking the successful close of 2025 activities, several deserving members received cash awards for outstanding contributions:Comrade John Ekpo Deputy Secretary General (DSG,) Administration/Personnel): was awarded ₦100,000 for exemplary punctuality.Comrade Kenneth Ibanga (DSG, Protocol; ITF Representative): Received ₦100,000 as best dressed male.

Comrade Mathew Adele (General Secretary, Dockworkers Branch): Honoured with ₦100,000 for best dressed.Comrade Akala Mistura (Union Accountant): Took home ₦100,000 as female best dressed.Funke Apesin (ASG, Administration): Awarded ₦100,000 in the best dressed category.Serifat Ogbede (PA to PG): Received ₦100,000 for best dressed.

Others are – Comrade Taofeek Adeleke (Security): Recognized as the top Union security official.Comrade Matina Njoku (VPG): Won ₦50,000 as best female dancer in the open competition, with others receiving consolation prizes.

The highlight was the presentation of the prestigious “2025 Queen” award from the “Face of Maritime” organizers to President-General Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, capping a historic fiesta.Guests enjoyed sumptuous meals from Nigeria’s Niger-Delta, Southwest, Southeast, and Northern regions, showcasing MWUN’s unity and inclusivity.

In his closing remarks, Comrade Abi thanked attendees for their conduct and loyalty, praised the “Face of Maritime” team, and pledged an even bigger event next year through hard work and dedication. Journalists present were also appreciated.
