Two former President Generals of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) Comrade Onikolease Irabor and Tony Nted Emmanuel alongside a pioneer Dockworkers President, Comrade Joseph Oladipo Ogunleye have all endorsed Comrade Francis Bunu as the next leader of the union.
The trio endorsement was made known on Thursday, February 6th 2025 during a courtesy visit by the union’s top executives led by the current President General of MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju .
Adeyanju took some members of his executives to the residence of the three veterans – Okokomaiko, Satellite Town and Awumo Odofin in furtherance to intimate them about the forthcoming elections, and the choice of candidacy.
Speaking at his Awumo Odofin residence , ex President General of the MWUN, Comrade Nted stated that the union only has one candidate in the forthcoming elections saying that the individual is Comrade Francis Bunu Abi .
Nted reiterated that introducing Bunu to him at this point as the next PG is a waste of time.
He noted that”Fellow comrade I want to thank you for the honour for visiting me. For me coming here to introduce Bunu as the next PG is like medicine after death.
Nted explained that three aspirants had approached him ahead of the election but maintained that ” I appealed to the two others to step down for Bunu.
“I called Comrade Mazeli who is a very young man and also a nice guy. I called Uche and I spoke with him and they agreed with me . Whether they step down or they do not step down. The leadership of the union have spoken.
While praying for Bunu as the next leader of the union, Nted prayed for God Almighty to allow the in-coming to succeed in good health, calling for God’s guidance, strength , wisdom and ideas that will propel MWUN to greater heights .
The former PG affirmed that Bunu emergence is ordained from heaven calling on him to listen to advice from the veterans who have paid their dues in ensuring that MWUN stand tall.
Also speaking during the visit to his Satellite Town residence , Com. Irabor expressed satisfaction on the candidacy of Comrade Bunu. He said Bunu’s has paid his due following his steadfastness in union activities.

The former PG urged Bunu to working closely with members of the MWUN within and outside Lagos jurisdiction.
According to Irabor the union will support the in-coming PG both physically and spiritually noting Adeyanju recommendation of Bunu is divine.
However, Irabor pledged to be in attendance during the March 28 elections which is expected to hold in Lagos.
Similarly, pioneer Dockworker President, Comrade Joseph Oladipo Ogunleye congratulated the incumbent President General MWUN ,Comrade Adewale Adeyanju for producing a successor .
Ogunleye stated that the veterans will also support the chosen one as recommended by the current leadership of the union .
Ogunleye who spoke at his Okokomaiko office in Lagos, urged members of the union to work closely with the in-coming PG as part of efforts to improve on the existing successes laid down by Adeyanju and other past leaders
He noted that Bunu endorsement was devoid of ethnicity and religious biases, pointing out that the MWUN has four united branches working for a common goal.
Earlier, at the various residences of the trio Adeyanju re-echoed that Bunu was recommended by the Seamen and Water Transport Workers Branch of MWUN as their flag bearer stressing that the union will continue to rally support for him
He stressed that Bunu has been tested and trusted by all, hence the need to canvass support for him.
He also affirmed that Bunu has the capacity to improve on the success stories laid down by past leaders of MWUN based on his track records.
Recall that the trio endorsement came barely 48hours ,the pioneer President General of MWUN , Comrade Uzoije Ukaumunna endorsed and prayed for Bunu as the next union boss.
