The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has declared December 11 2024 as a day set aside to celebrate the dockworkers.
The 2024 Dockworkers Day edition has as theme” Safety First Efficiency Always”.
According to a statement sighted by DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA on Tuesday, the event is expected to hold at Nigerian Ports Authority NPA sport complex, Surulere Lagos .
Recall that the union held its maiden Day of Dockworkers in 2023, which was well attended by stakeholders of the industry.
The dockworkers day celebration is aimed to recognize the contribution and hard work to the port industry.
With their immense dedication to the movement of world trade , dockworkers play crucial role to growth of the nation’s revenue drive through the gate way to the nation’s economy .
Stevedore operators’, terminal operators, shipping companies, terminal operators, government agencies under the Marine and Blue Economy. Ministry etc have indicated interest to participate in the celebration.
President General, MWUN, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju stressed that” Dockworkers are significant as first line in operations of loading and off-loading in both import and export operations in the Ports, Jetties, offshore. Since nimasa regulates them ,the onus lies in them to celebrate their significant in growth of the national economy.
