MWUN Assures Stakeholders Of Peaceful Branch Elections

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has assured stakeholders in the industry that the forthcoming branch elections would also be peaceful just like the recently concluded 5th Quadrennial Delegates Conference.

 

President General of the union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju who gave the assurance on Tuesday in Lagos , noted that the elections will come up in a couple of weeks saying talks are ongoing to decide on the date.

 

The PG also disclosed that the National Executive Council elections would have been the mostย  worrisome but maintained that peace and harmony was the order of the day during the conference.

Adeyanju also assured that the Nigerian Ports Authority, Shipping and Forwarding Branches have no issues with contestants butย  added that they might be some level of contestants inย  Dockworkers and Seaman and NIWA branches .

 

The union boss however reiterated that there is no cause for alarm prior to the elections.

 

 

He affirmed that “I don’t see any elections that can be tougher than my first tenure election. You all know what I passed through during my first term ambition, so there is no cause for alarm this time around .

“The four arms know my steps and they know my stands on the branch election, so if we can successfully conduct the national election without rancour then I can assure stakeholders that they will be no issues in the branch elections.

 

“Dockworkers and Seafarers’ branches are from one family and I know how to manage the situation.

 

“NPA and Shipping branchesย  have no problem at all but forย  Seamen branch I am still meeting with them on the best way out”,he stated .

 

The union hasย  three more levels of elections to be conducted. This include Branches , followed by Districts and Units.

The President General of MWUN and other national executives were recently re-elected for a second term .
