MWUN 2025: Comrade Igwe Onu Declares Ambition To Run As President General

 

The current Treasurer of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) , Comrade Uche Igwe Onu on Thursday,declared his intention to contest as the next President General in the forthcoming elections.

Speaking during the flag off of his campaign in Lagos , Igwe Onu said the gathering was aimed for him to declare his intention.

Igwe Onu a former President ,Shipping Branch of the MWUN,vowed to see the end of the election that will usher in a new President General, calling on shipping Branch members to be courageous and support him as the next PG.

According to him, “Let me start by saying I have paid my dues in this system. My pedigree is very clear and some of my colleagues can speak on my behalf. The capacity is there , I have my integrity, discipline, to manage the system.

“I have not done badly as a national treasurer’ and former Branch president, he stated

He lamented that outsourcing of dockworkers and seafarers’ are some major challenges befalling the union and I think I have the capacity to deal with them.

Igwe Onu pointed that election goes beyond campaign posters, flyers and pamphlets adding that election campaign has to do with engaging the right people at the right now.

However, a cross section of national, branch, women and district officers of the union took turn to endorse Comrade Igwe Onu’s bid to vote in the forthcoming elections.

Earlier , Deputy President General, MWUN Comrade Boniface Udom called on members of the branch to vote for Comrade Igwe Onu adding that he has been tested and trusted..

On her part , Vice President,MWUN Funmi Fasan advocated for members to sell Uche Igwe Onu to other branches of the union saying that the product is not for the branch alone but the totality of the union.

She added that members of the shipping branch should support the vision and mission of Igwe Onu, adding that the branch should be committed towards electing the next President General of MWUN.

Shipping Branch President, MWUN , Comrade Ekpeyong Ekpeyong stated that campaign has started and Uche Igwe Onu is a leader who has what it takes to lead the union.

 

Ekpeyong described the flag off as strategic rallying point for Igwe Onu urging members to champion the campaign of the President General position for their beloved leader.

The Branch boss stated that”We have gathered here to propose and promote Our leader; is our leader and we are loyal to him.

“The time has come for us to seat on the number one spot of the union . We will go to the polls and do our best . Then we are consulting with other branches and we have done our bid “he affirmed.

Similarly, Ekpeyong urged members from shipping branch to be firm and commitment to the project of the election pointing out that confidence , courage and inspiration should be the watchwords.

The Branch Women Wing Leader, Comrade Rosemary Otikpere called on members of the shipping branch to go all out and canvass for more support for Comrade Igwe Onu .
