Merchant Navy Union Celebrates Comrade Adeyanju’s Victory As NLC 1st Deputy President

The Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association NMNOWTSSA has congratulated the newly elected 1st national deputy president of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC,Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, saying the victory will further help  the many struggles of the maritime sector.

President of the Trade Union Congress  (TUC) affiliate association, Comrade Bob Yousou in a congratulatory  message on Wednesday, expressed delight on the victory of the MWUN boss, noting that the elected position was well deserved as a union leader.

He expressed  confident that Adeyanju antecedents  as the current President General of one of the most articulated and viable union in Nigeria would support the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerian workers especially at a time when maritime unions are  advocating for Collective Bargaining  Agreement.

The NMNOWTSSA boss further stated that working closely with MWUN ably lead by Adeyanju, over the years  had helped the seafaring union to understand and appreciate the level of commitment towards ensuring that Nigerian worker’s welfare is of utmost paramount .

“We were delighted to hear of your victory in on Wednesday’s election as the 1st Deputy National President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

“Your being elected to the exalted position was well deserved as a dogged fighter, indefatigable and result oriented labour leader. We are confident that your antecedents and as the current President General of one of the most articulated and viable union in Nigeria,  your influence will continue to encourage our proud tradition of involvement in worthwhile legislation and extant laws that supports the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerian workers especially this time we are earnestly advocating for collective bargaining  Agreement.

“We hope your position will further help and ensure the support of NLC to these laudable initiatives.

“Working closely with MWUN ably lead by you, over the years now had helped us understand and appreciate your level of commitment towards ensuring that Nigerian worker’s welfare is of utmost paramount to you. Earlier , Comrade Joe Ajaero and Comrade Adewale Adeyanju emerged as the newly elected national president and 1st deputy president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

Ajaero took over from Ayuba Wabba on Wednesday in Abuja at the 13th NLC Delegates Conference.

Comrade Adeyanju (Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria) who was a former trustee executive of NLC rose to become 1st deputy president unopposed at the NLC quadrennial delegates conference.

Others occupying the top position of deputy president of NLC are: Comrade Audu Titus Amba, who is representing the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), and Comrade Kabiru Ado Sani, representing the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN).

Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji is sole nominee for position of the National Treasurer. He represents the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

The position of the Vice President include; Comrade Benjamin Anthony representing Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees(AUPCTRE); Comrade Stephen Igho Okoro – National Union of Civil Engineering Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers (NUCECFWW); Comrade Michael Akuma Nnachi – National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM); and Comrade Oluwole Sunday – Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU).

Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu of Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), is the sole nominee for position of Financial Secretary, and Comrade Williams Akporeha representing Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), is also sole nominee for position of National Trustee.

The position of Internal Auditor are Comrade Babatunde Goke Olatunji – National Union of Chemical, Footwear, Rubber, Leather and Non-metallic Products Employees (NUCFRLANMPE); Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim – Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU); and Comrade Garba Ibrahim of National Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE).

For Ex-officio, the occupants are; Roselyn Uba-Anarah – Nigeria Union of Public Service reportorial, Secretarial Data Processors and Allied Workers (NUPSRAW), and Professor Member Euginia George-Genyi of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected president , promised to open new vistas for Nigerian workers, saying that NLC will work closely with all social partners.

Ajaero stated that the NLC will pursue with urgency new national minimum wage law,adding that the move will centre on how to create more employment.

He also harped on due process against anti people policy and stop impunity in the country ; therefore work round the close to review privatisation of the power sector.

The newly elected President reiterated promised to work with affiliate groups , while embarking on deliberate campaign to initiate the process of building capacity.
