Merchant Navy Tasks NIWA Boss To Work Closely With Internal Staff

Leadership of the Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA) has called on the newly appointed Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Dr. George Moughalu  to work closely with in-house staff in achieving success.

 

The union therefore sought audience with the new MD for professional advice for success in his new assignment despite being a greenhorn in the sector.

The seafaring union said it needed to work closely with the in-house staff of the agency for professional engagements and advice that will lead to his quick understanding and impact in NIWA.

The National President of the seafaring group, Engr. Matthew Alalade while congratulating the MD on his new appointment, said members of the Union held key positions in NIWA and could assist from a professional point of view.

 

In his recommendations to Moughalu, Alalade said the Deputy National President of the union, Comrade Boniface Akwubor is the current General Manager, NIWA, Calabar Area Officer in Cross River State pointing out that the with sound advice from such an experienced hand, it would assist the newly appointed MD.

Other members of the Union currently working with NIWA according to the President include; Ayorinde Mercy Ebunola an Accountant at NIWA Area Office in Warri Delta State and Vice President, NIWA Zone, Comrade Yakubu Zurkarneni at Lokoja Area office.

Others are zonal Chairman NIWA zone Comrade Tanko Mohammed Abubakar   and Zonal Secretary NIWA zone Comrade Idenyi Obaje Yahaya

 

Alalade who also doubles as Auditor of Trade Union Congress (TUC), affirmed that with the wealth of experience by members of union currently working with NIWA, the NIWA boss would succeed despite his limited knowledge on the sector.

 

In a “Letter of Felicitation”, written to the new MD and signed by the Deputy Secretary General of Union, Comrade John Aleakhue Okpono a copy made available to our correspondent over the weekend described Moghalu as moralist, selflessness , patriotic and a man of high pedigree.

The letter said “We welcome you onboard as the newly appointed Managing Director of NIWA and to congratulate you on this opportunity to serve our beloved country Nigeria.

 

“With your antecedent as a moralist, selflessness, patriotic and a man of high pedigree, we believe that this appointment was by merit and NIWA under your leadership will attain greater height.

 

“As a critical stakeholder in the maritime industry and your senior staff being our members, we assure you of our unalloyed support that guarantee your success in this herculean task ahead.
