Leadership of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has asked its members to seek relieve from work to be able to participate fully in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.
In a statement made available to the media and signed by the Deputy Secretary General, Erazua Oniha, was addressed to the secretaries of the four branches of the union.
The letter dated 20th February, called on employers of labour at various port terminals and shipping line agencies for total compliance to the order.
The directive read in apart, “In view of the recent pronouncement of the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcing February 25th, 2023 as date for election of officials into the presidency and other National political officer as reflected above; I am directed to inform you to please send a notice of request to all your stakeholders asking for the Relieve of Union members from work on the above stipulated date to enable them exercise their franchise”.
Recall that the Nigerian Labour Congress has issued directive for employees to vote for the Labour Party (LP) in the elections.
