Maritime Workers Commend NPA Over Prompt Response To Tackle Stagnant Workers Salary 

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has commended management of the Nigerian Ports Authority NPA for the swift response to engage the union on best way out in resolving workers poorly renumeration.

Recall that the union , penultimate weeks expressed dissatisfaction over eighteen years stagnancy of workers salary increment even as the MWUN threatened a show down through industrial unrest with NPA in port operations.

Speaking to our correspondent on Monday in Lagos, President General MWUN Comrade Adewale Adeyanju disclosed that the union met with management of NPA adding that the outcome was fruitful.

According to him, the Minister of Labour and Productivity,Dr. Chris Ngige was deeply involved in resolving the pending issue of workers salary increment noting that a committee has been set up to come up with modalities to effect a change on workers renumeration.

Adeyanju stated that the meeting which held on Friday in Abuja , had in attendance, the National President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Ayuba Wabba, Managing Director, NPA, Mohammed Koko Bello, Branch President,NPA, Comrade Ifeanyi Mazeli and other top executives from both the Senior Staff Association.

He commended workers from NPA for their patience and endurance towards ensuring the existence of industrial peace at the port, pointing out that increment was long overdue.

“We just have to commend management of NPA for coming out and interact with us on how to increase workers salary.

“The NLC is aware of the labour movement with NPA and our national also assured us to be deeply involved on the best way to resolve the issue”

“My primary responsibility is to protect their welfare mostly with the workers from the four branches of MWUN and the body language of the MD,NPA  is showing he is ready to play the game for workers and how to improve on the salaries.

” I want to commend the management of NPA because I see a lot of seriousness.and commitment to resolve the issues at hand.

“We are very serious and we cannot joke with workers welfare and that was the reason behind that meeting with NPA”,he stressed.
