Marine/Blue Economy: Bayelsa Govt To Create Fish Cities, To Establish Taskforce On Maritime Security

 

Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri on Monday, attended an expanded stakeholders validation for the state Marine and Blue Economy Draft Policy in Yenagoa.

The stakeholders meeting which was held at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha memorial Banquet Hall in Yenagoa, also had in attendance, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, the Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola and other top government officials.

The governor in his remarks, stated that the creation of the ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was to take advantage of the opportunities in the marine industry.

He further stated that State government is committed to completing the three senatorial roads that will lead to the Atlantic Ocean.

Governor Diri further stated that the government will champion the creation of Fish cities to fuel an industry to benefit every Bayelsan.

“The recent establishment of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, and of course, our own ministry of Marine and Blue Economy demonstrates our seriousness in making the most of this Opportunity.

To secure our waters and improve the safety of our coastlines, I am pleased to announce the establishment of a task force on marine safety.

“This task force will work in collaboration with federal agencies, local authorities and industry stakeholders to ensure the security of our maritime domain,” Governor Diri stated.
