LAWMA Issues Seal Order on Ipodo Market Over Indiscriminate Waste

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has issued an intention to seal order on Ipodo Market, Ikeja, for indiscriminate waste disposal, non-compliance as well as lack of a proper and adequate waste plan.

Explaining that the Authority took such a drastic step in order to restore sanity in waste management, the Acting Managing Director/CEO of the Authority, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, maintained that the market should have a waste management plan in order to ensure the waste generated is properly disposed of.

Odumboni, who spoke on a monitoring and enforcement exercise, reiterated the fact that LAWMA is intensifying efforts at cleaning up markets and other locations to make the city of Lagos cleaner and livable for residents.

Disclosing that the Authority also dislodged illegal markets in Oja-Oba, Abule-Egba, due to the nuisance constituted in the environment, the General Manager explained that the activities of traders led to indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the drains and the road medians along the axis.

He urged Lagosians to support the efforts of the present administration in ensuring a healthy environment and advised residents to properly dispose of their wastes by not dumping them in the drains, canals and road medians but patronising PSP operators to foster a cleaner, healthier environment.
