LASWA Takes Lead On Search, Rescue Exercise Alongside Navy, NIMASA , Marine Police, Others

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA)  will on Monday 18 December 2023, in Lagos hold a joint search and rescue simulator exercise to enhance safety on the Legos brown waterways .

The joint exercise will also feature the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Navy, Western Naval Command, and Marine Police.
The exercise will also feature Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire Service , Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and other emergency responder agencies .

According to a statement , sighted by our correspondent , weekend, the initiative is aimed to validate the readiness of agencies involved in emergency response and reassuring the public of a safer and more secured environment along Lagos inland waterways.
The statement noted that during the exercise, vessel operators are advised to adhere to the directives and maintain maximum speed of 4 knots while navigating along designated areas .
It explained that “All emergency responders, boat associations and unions, inland waterways regulatory agencies at state and federal levels are encouraged to participate in the crucial exercise.”
“The joint marine and rescue simulator exercise exemplifies the commitment of these agencies to ensure prompt , coordinated and effective response to the event of marine emergency, contributing to the overall safety and security of Lagos inland waterways “,the statement added.
