LASWA Harps On More Community Engagement To Foster Waterways Transportation

Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has said it plans to foster growth and development, as well harness the potential of waterways transportation in the State.

 

LASWA General Manager, Damilola Emmanuel, stated this when Management of Ekofm / Radio Lagos107.5fm  paid him a courtesy visit.

 

The GM stressed the need for more community engagements by LASWA, to enhance confidence in water transportation by disseminating safety messages, providing standard boats and life jackets, passing information on Jetties and their locations.

Emmanuel said the investment opportunities in the sector would complement efforts of the present administration to combat traffic congestion on Lagos roads.

According to him, water transportation will also reduce the time it takes for citizens to commute especially during peak period, as fifteen out of the twenty Local Governments in the State are accessible by the waterways, currently manned by eighty percent of local boat operators.

 

Highlighting LASWA achievements so far, the General Manager said year 2021 focused on safety of the waterways with minimal number of accidents, adding that more  recently, movement of containers and goods had supported decongestion of Apapa port and its environment.
