LASG Unfolds Plans To Introduce Buses,Ferries For Tourism

As part of efforts to offer residents and visitors the opportunity to explore tourism in Lagos, the State will soon introduce buses and ferries services for tourism.

 

The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Akinbile-Yusuff spoke about the initiative at the just-concluded 17th edition of Akwaaba African Travel Market in Lagos, saying that various opportunities will be unveiled to enhance tourism activities befitting a megacity.

 

She said the new tour buses and ferry services would offer opportunities to interested individuals and groups who want to tour Lagos and savour its sights and sounds.

 

“When operational, visitors and residents are expected to buy a day travel card from any of the dedicated bus and ferry stations for this purpose and are free to embark and disembark at any station of choice”, Akinbile-Yussuf explained.

 

Giving further details about the plans, the Commissioner said,  “Tour buses with tour guides will also be a permanent feature of the city based on the developmental plans for tourism in the State.

 

“Many of us only know what exists within our immediate neighbourhoods but with the tour buses and tour ferries, visitors will have the opportunity not only to see Lagos but also to experience the city”.

 

Describing Lagos as a city that provides a blend of experiences ranging from culture, music, entertainment and art, Akinbile-Yussuf maintained that various festivals and carnivals held, especially during festive periods, give the State its unique character as a city that never sleeps.

 

She tasked youths to be proactive by taking advantage of the various opportunities the State offered to build a better future for young people.

 

On his part, the organiser of the annual Akwaaba African Travel Market, Ambassador Ikechi Uko, envisaged that the event will reconnect participants with the industry’s leading players and join forces to get tourism back to its feet.

 

He added that delegates from different countries in Africa will be able to discover new destinations in Nigeria, hinting that an unveiling of the Seven Natural Wonders of Nigeria is in the offing.
