LASG, NARTO At Loggerheads Over Proposed E-Call Up At Lekki-Epe Corridor; Truckers To  Suspend Operations June 16

The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has called on its members to suspend haulage operations along the Lekki-Epe corridor due to unresolved issues with the Lagos State Government over the proposed fee collection on the e-Call Up System.

NARTO President Yusuf Lawal Othman made this known in a statement.

Lawal noted that despite continued efforts and engagement, the association has not reached a consensus with the relevant authorities on the proposed N12,500 per truck charge, adding that NARTO believes a more equitable fee, reflective of current economic realities, should be considered.

The President described the recent directive issued by the Lagos State Government regarding the commencement of the N12,500 e-Call Up System for trucks operating along the Lekki-Epe corridor as unrealistic given the country’s economic situation.

He therefore directed truck owners to suspend truck movement along the corridor beginning Monday, June 16, 2025.

According to him, “In light of this unresolved issue, effective from June 16, 2025, all transporters are strongly advised to instruct their respective depot representatives to suspend the programming of trucks for movement along the Lekki-Epe corridor until a mutually agreeable resolution is achieved.”

The National President further appreciated the cooperation of members and urged them to remain united and vigilant.

He emphasized that NARTO insists on continued engagement with the Lagos State Government in pursuit of a fair and sustainable outcome.

“This is to formally address the recent directive issued by the Lagos State Government regarding the commencement of the N12,500 e-Call Up System for trucks operating along the Lekki-Epe Road axis.

“Despite our continued efforts and engagement, we have not reached a consensus with the relevant authorities on our proposed N2,500 per truck charge, which we believe is more equitable and reflective of current economic realities.”

Recall that the Lagos State Government has officially announced that enforcement of the electronic call-up (e-call-up) system on the Lekki-Epe corridor will commence on June 16.

This new enforcement date follows an earlier postponement. The announcement was made by Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat in a statement released by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

The declaration followed a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened to address growing concerns over traffic disruption caused by increased industrial operations within the Lekki Free Zone and its environs.
