In a bid to curb the outbreak of Coronavirus and LASSA fever in the State, the Lagos State Government, through the State Ministry of Information and Strategy, has sensitised members of organised transport affiliate union and associations..
These groups in a statement by the state government include, the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) , members of the Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN) and Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) .
Speaking on the enlightenment campaign , Assistant Director in the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Bode Lawal stated that the exercise was designed to inform, educate and enlighten the groups on the symptoms, precautions and steps to take when confronted with a suspected case of Coronavirus and LASSA fever .
The enlightenment campaign on the dreaded virus was held in Lagos on Friday.
According to him, members of the associations should only abide by information disseminated through the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
Lawal also revealed that Lassa Fever, which had spread to 27 States in the country, has also been reported in Lagos but that the proactive measures put in place by government have curbed the outbreak of the disease in the State.
He, therefore, urged the Unionists to obey all traffic rules and avoid an unnecessary rift with law enforcement agencies, adding that commercial vehicle operators should adhere strictly to traffic laws and avoid abusive acts with traffic law enforcers.
