Lagos Promises Continuous Monitoring Of State Owned Jetties, Terminals 

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Esv. (Mrs.) Olayinka Patunola-Ajayi, Mni, today reiterated the commitment of the Lagos State Government to improving the public Inland Waterways transit system in the State.

She stated this while welcoming the members of the Alumni Association of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) AANI – Lagos Sisters led by the Chairman, Ms. Omolara Balogun, Mni in her office today.

According to her, the State Government, through the Ministry, would continue to effectively monitor the State-owned Terminal/Jetties to ensure the safety of lives and properties of the citizens as well as improve all waterfront infrastructures to make the facilities the best in the World.

Speaking on the purpose of the visit, the Chairman of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) Lagos State Chapter, Ms. Omolara Balogun said the visit was to felicitate Mrs. Patunola-Ajayi, who is one of their members, on her well-deserved appointment as Permanent Secretary.

She pledged the member’s support to the Lagos State Government on the provision of world-class Waterfront Infrastructure in the State to complement the Multi-Modal Transportation system of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Taskforce has carried out a follow-up clearing and mop-up operation at the Lekki Coastal Road in line with its mandate of ensuring a serene and habitable environment for residents within the axis through the removal of illegal structures and shanties used as hideouts by criminals.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of Monday May 8 2023 and lasted about six hours, was led by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Shola Jejeloye who later disclosed that 38 suspects were arrested during the exercise.

Jejeloye further stated that the makeshift shanties by the roadside were demolished to ensure free vehicular movement along the route as well as rid the area of criminal hideouts.

The Chairman warned all squatters and unscrupulous elements to keep off the area or risk being arrested and prosecuted. He appealed to roadside traders to move their wares to the designated market complex rather than deface the streets and roads.

“Clearing of this area will be sustained for as long as it takes till we achieve our objective of creating a society that is safe and habitable for all residents and visitors”, Jejeloye averred.
