The Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Hajiya Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu has debunked the rumour making rounds on some social media platforms that a date has been announced for resumption of academic activities in tertiary institutions in the state.
The rumour on the platforms stated that 28th September 2020 has been scheduled as date of the resumption of academic activities by the tertiary institutions .
Ahmed, Abeeb Oredunni,Assistant Press Secretary , Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Dispelling the rumour while fielding questions from some journalists in her office, Hajiya Kawu said the statement is lacking in truth and should be disregarded by the students and the public.
She further said no resumption can take place in the state unless the state government has an iron-clad assurance that safety measures are in place across the institutions in the state.
Also, as part of preparation for resumption of academic activities in the tertiary institutions, Hajiya Kawu disclosed that Pre-Reopening consultations with stakeholders would begin on Monday, 21st September, 2020.
She, however, called for patience among the students as she assured them that the government place premium on their safety and would not do anything to compromise their wellbeing.
The Commissioner also appealed to the students to remain in their homes and ensure that they follow the COVID-19 safety protocols as laid down by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, while they await official announcement for resumption from the state government.
Meanwhile the Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Fatimah Bisola Ahmed has reaffirmed the commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration reopening of Schools in the state for 2020/2021 Academic session.
This was contained in a statement made available by Y. K. Aliagan,Press Secretary,MOEHCD , who quoted the Commissioner to have disclosed this during an interactive session with newsmen in her office over the weekend.
According to her, the Ministry will meet all stakeholders in the education sector on Wednesday, the 23rd of September for ratification on the proposed 2020/2021 academic calendar.
In her words, “we have prepared the proposed 2020/2021 academic calendar which may start very soon based on the ratification of education stakeholders.”
Hajia Ahmed also revealed that the Ministry, in conjunction with UBEC, has started sensitization of Head Teachers and Principals on the need to adhere strictly to the NCDC guidelines in order to flatten the curve of Covid-19.
In addition, she said the Ministry has directed all Education Secretaries to inspect the level of preparedness of schools in their locality and advise government on other areas requiring urgent attention in order to avoid students contracting Covid-19.
The Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the present administration
in providing all necessary precautionary measures that will guarantee the safety of students and pupils and also make the academic session hitch free in the state.
