Kebbi, Sokoto Announce Public Holiday To Mark Islamic New Year

Kebbi and Sokoto States Government have declared , Friday 21st August 2020 equivalent to 1st Muharram, 1442, after the Hijra, in the Islamic Calendar, Public Holiday.

A statement from the offices of the Acting Head of Civil Service, signed by the government officials, said Governors issued the approval, advising muslims to remain prayerful to God for peace and economic prosperity of the nation as well as guidance to leaders.

The statement directs all federal and state ministries , agencies,parastatals and financial institutions including banks operating in the state to observe the holiday.

“Following the declaration of Friday, 21st August, 2020 as 1st Muharram 1442, by the Sultanate Council, Sokoto, the general public is hereby informed that the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, (MUTAWALLEN SOKOTO), has declared tomorrow, Friday, 21st August, 2020 as a Public Holiday in commemoration of the new Islamic Year, 1442 AH

” The Governor also wished the entire Muslim Ummah a happy new Islamic year as well as Allah’s guidance and blessings.

“He also enjoined people of the state to continue to pray for peace and progress in the state and the country in general.”,a statement from Sokoto State Governor said.
