Kebbi Govt  Set To Boost Fish Farming  

As part of sustained efforts  to encourage private sector participation in agriculture and also ensure the promotion of other value chains like fish production, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State,  has assured stakeholders that his administration would work closely with stakeholders to boost fishing sub sector for economic growth.

 

Yahaya Sarki , Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor said this in a statement on Sunday.

 

 

The Governor gave the assurance  during a working visit to Kitari Fish Farm, in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.

The visit by the Governor to the farm  was aimed at encouraging fish production in large and small scales in the state by private individuals.

 

Bagudu, who was delighted with the big fish ponds he saw at the Farm, which is at its first phase of development, went round to inspect the facility.

The Proprietor of the  Farm, Alhaji Abbas Umar Bunza , said various species of fish are being bred inside the fish ponds in the farm.

 

He explained that, since he started production, people from within and outside the state  have been patronising the farm.

Bunza also said, he has trained many youths on fisheries, so that they too could be employers of labour when they set up their fish farms.

 

One of the overseers of the farm , Abubakar Ladan , said  that, it started with five fish ponds, with additional five now under construction.

 

” Work started here over one year ago, with five fish ponds. We are now adding  five more , to make them ten ,” he averred.
