Josepdam Presents N15m Cheque To Injured Dockworker,As MWUN Urges Concessionaires To Place Premium On Employees

Terminal operator,Josepdam Port Services Nigeria Limited on Wednesday presented the cheque of 15 million naira to Mr. Sunday Osunsan as compensation for the permanent disability he received from an accident at the terminal twelve years ago.

Comrade Sunday Osunsan, a dockworker sustained injury resulting to permanent disability in 2008

The injured docker sustained the injury in line of duty in December 2008 while working with Josepdam Port Services Nigeria Limited.

Josepdam Port Services Limited is the operators of Terminal A at the Tin Can Island Port 2nd Lagos.

Presentation of the cheque to Comrade Sunday Osunsan

While presenting the cheque to the beneficiary, the Acting Human Resources Manager of Josepdam, Josiah Opeluo, regretted that the accident occured.

According to him, the present management of the terminal inherited the case and had no choice than to settle the already disabled man.

In his response, Osunsan who spoke in Yoruba language, thanked the union for the great role it played especially during the era of Adeyanju to making the promise come to past.

Osunsan also thanked management of the terminal for making the day a reality.

Earlier, Adeyanju had promised that the union would fight for anyone irrespective of the branch to get whatever right belongs to the person.

Adeyanju warned the beneficiary not to part any percentage of the fund to any group of individuals adding the money must be spent diligently by the docker.

He reiterated that the era of slavery by employers was over adding that standard must be adhere to.

The union boss called on terminal operators to respect the workers adding that the labour workers must not be treated as casual workers pointing out that the union is affiliate to IMO,ILO and ITF respectively.

While praying that no member will be maimed, he added that the union was poised to fight the course of anyone in the position of Osunsan.
