Josep Dam , MWUN, Stevedoring Firm Reach Agreement ,As  Terminal Operations Resume After 3-Day Closure

Port concessionaire, Josep Dam Port Services (JPS) , the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and Micura Services Limited have resolved the disagreement which led to shutdown of port operations for three days.

 

DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA gathered over the weekend that the trio met at about 12.noon on Friday , as part measures to resolve issues bothering on workers demands.

 

Recall that dockworkers from the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on Wednesday, shutdown Josepdam terminal at  Tin Can Island Port  over allegations of unfair treatment and short-changing the workers.

 

 

 

The aggrieved placards carrying dockers called on the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to probe the unfair treatment of workers by the concessionaire.

 

 

But in a document sighted by   our correspondent on Saturday, disclosed that the matter has been resolved and all parties involved agreed to work together amicably and peaceful.

 

The document stressed that the services of the stevedoring contractor attached to the terminal, Messrs.Micura Services Limited is still intact adding that the contract agreement will soon be reviewed through the National Joint Industrial Council (NJIC).

 

The statement was signed by the President General of MWUN, Managing Director of JPS and Group Operations Manager,Micura Services Limited.

 

 

 

Other signatories on the document include: Chief Finance Account and Head Human Resources / Administration from JPS, President Dockworkers Branch, Deputy Secretary General from (MWUN ) and Group Head HR/ Admin , Micura Services Limited.

 

As part of some of resolution reached by all parties involved, the document further explained that the stevedoring contractor will also raise invoices for the two outstanding vessels on tonnage rate to JPS for payment.

 

 

JPS is the official port concessionaire of Terminal A, Tin Can Island Port Lagos.

 

The terminal handles bulk cargoes and general cargoes respectively.
