ITF Accuses International Seafarers’ Union Of Promoting Exploitation

The International Seafarers’ Union (ISU), which claims to represent seafarers, is being accused of enabling the exploitation of maritime workers rather than protecting their rights.

Critics alleged that when seafarers face crises, ISU fails to provide support, leaving genuine trade unions to defend their interests.

According to industry watchdogs, ISU operates primarily for profit, not for the welfare of seafarers.

Meanwhile , the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) has vowed to take action against this exploitation and called on the public to raise awareness by sharing information exposing ISU’s practices.

The ITF emphasized the importance of authentic unions in safeguarding seafarers’ rights and ensuring fair treatment in the maritime sector.

ITF on its verified Meta page ITF said ” SHAM UNION: The International Seafarers’ Union (ISU) claims to be a seafarers’ union – but the reality is that it enables seafarer exploitation.

“When seafarers are in crisis, ISU is nowhere to be found. Instead, genuine trade unions must step in to defend seafarers’ rights.
