Intels Bows To Union’s Pressure, Recalls 600 Disengaged Workers

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on Monday, disclosed that workers disengaged by Intels Nigeria Limited have been recalled .

The MWUN had served a seven –day warning notice to management of Intels Nigeria Ltd., to reinstate 600 of its staff who were recently disengaged from their jobs.

The union also explained that both parties have concluded plans to meet on the 5th of November 2020.

Management of Intels, Association of Maritime Service (AMS ) and the union had earlier fixed October 22nd 2020 for a meeting in line with labour dispute but was stalled by the #ENDSARS protect by Nigerian youths.

But speaking on Monday in Lagos , against the backdrop of the development, President General MWUN,Comrade Adewale Adeyanju reaffirmed that the workers have been recalled in line with the ultimatum issued to Intels and it subsidiary.

The MWUN boss stated that all affected workers sack and letter of termination from management of Intels has been withdrawn, adding that a meeting have been scheduled for Thursday 5th of November 2020.

Adeyanju said : ” Management of Intels and AMS invited us for a meeting this Thursday and they were appealing.

“The letter stated that all affected workers have been instructed to go back to work.

“They also wrote to us for the second time , based on the ENDSARS protest by Nigerian youths that we should sit down on a round table and dialogue on the best way out.”he noted.

While reacting on the 21 day ultimatum issued to shipping companies over the gridlock along the port corridors, Adeyanju stressed the need to review the warning notice, urging stakeholders to be on the same page with the union in order to tackle the gridlock along the roads linking the seaports.

He also accused the shipping lines of indiscriminate parking of container laden trucks along the port corridors which in turn has led to the gridlock .

He also assured that “As a responsible organisation, we don’t need to join issues with what is on going in the country with other groups and association but we will review the ultimatum pretty soon”, he added.
