INDUSTRIAL UNREST:Seafarer Unions Pickett Tethys Plantgeria Limited In Port Harcourt Over CBA

Seafarer Unions on Tuesday in Port Harcourt ,Rivers State picketed Tethys Plantgeria Limited In Port Harcourt over refusal to review seafarers’ Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The combined seafarers’ from the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA) and Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria MWUN shutdown operational activities of the shipping company for the whole day stating that failure on the part of the employers to comply with industrial matters.

The unionists numbering over fifty were sighted barricading the entry and exit points of the company.

It was gathered that the gross violation of CBA by management triggered the industrial action by the labour unions.

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) affiliates expressed disappointment over the regulatory agencies failure to enforce compliance by the employers in the maritime industry.

The lack of due process on the part of management of Tethys Plantgeria Limited In Port Harcourt led to the picketing.

One of the union members who spoke with our correspondent stated that several letters have been written by both unions on the review of CBA but the company failed to respond.

Tethys Plantgeria Limited is an indigenous Diving and Marine Contracting firm which was established in 1991 for the purpose of providing technical services in the areas of underwater engineering, diving operations, marine transportation, offshore construction and research in the marine environment.
