INDEPENDENCE DAY: SSASCGOC Maritime Felicitates Nigerians, Seeks Better Welfare For Workers. 

The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), Maritime Branch has celebrated with Nigerians across the world on the occasion of the 63rd independence day anniversary of the country .

The President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) affiliate group , Comrade Bodunde Akinola in a press release, called on the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus more on the issue of insecurity  bedeviling the nation.

According to him, the independence day celebration should be seen as a day for sober reflection considering the hardship faced by over 90% of the populace noting that the anniversary is coming at a time when inflation has hit the ceiling top.

Comrade Akinola who bemoaned the current hardship in the country, encouraged the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) workers to exercise more patience and be more tolerant at this time and exercise more patience with the hope of a greater destination for the country.

Akinola stated that the union will continue to prioritize workers’ welfare in NPA and that the leadership under his watch will endeavour to engage management on burning issues affecting members.

In view of the negative economic outlook, he called on the management of NPA to improve on the welfare of the workers even as he said that the federal government should yield to the yearning of the Trade Union Congress for improved standard of living for workers

On the nationwide strike declared by both the Trade Union Congress and the Nigerian Labour Congress, the SSASCGOC boss said that the union was ready to abide by the rules of the national body.

The President further expressed sadness over the hardship faced by Nigerians urging the federal government to engage the unions and proffer solutions to the huge dominance of foreign currency against the naira.

On the recent fuel subsidy removal the astute union leader advised the government to further seek means to cushion the effects of the policy which he said had crippled the nation’s economy.
