INDEFINITE STRIKE : MWUN Indicates Readiness To Shutdown Seàports Nationwide

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has indicated readiness for the indefinite nationwide  strike as directed by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) which is expected to commence on Tuesday 3rd 2023.

According to a circular signed by the Deputy Secretary, MWUN, Comrade  Oniha Erazua on Friday, a copy made available to DAILY FOCUS NIGERIA, the union will mobilize members across the four branches to shutdown port operations nationwide.

Consequently, the circular called on members to commence mobilization of all the Branches  Districts and Units officials to ensure total compliance to the NLC directives.

These positions came  days after the NLC insisted that the strike would go ahead, even as the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, directed members, including the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, Petrol Stations Workers, PSW, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers, LPGAR, and all other allied workers in the value chain of petroleum products distribution to comply with the strike directive.

Members of the   four branches namely NPA, Shipping , Dockworkers , Seaman and NIWA Water Transport have earlier called for the government to provide palliative for workers in the maritime industry but all to no avail.
