IMO Expresses Concerns Over Attacks On Seafarers’, Merchant Vessels In Strait Of Hormuz,

International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez has issued a stark warning today amid escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, declaring that “no attack on innocent seafarers or civilian shipping is ever justified.”

Dominguez expressed deep concern over reports of injuries to several seafarers in recent attacks on merchant vessels.

“These crews are simply doing their jobs and must be protected from the effects of wider geopolitical tensions,” he stated.Emphasizing the cornerstone of international maritime law, he reiterated that freedom of navigation must be respected by all parties without exception.

The IMO leader is closely monitoring the situation and has advised shipping companies to exercise maximum caution, recommending that vessels avoid the affected region where possible until conditions stabilize.

He also urged stakeholders to stay vigilant against disinformation, relying solely on verified sources for navigational decisions.

Dominguez extended his thoughts to the injured seafarers and their families, affirming that their safety remains the IMO’s top priority.
