IKOTUN : Residents Of Irebami CDA Commend CP Lagos State For Intervention In Tackling Insecurity

Residents of Irebami Unity CDA, Ikotun in Lagos have expressed satisfaction and commendation on the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) for the timely intervention of curbing insecurity and other social vices within the community.

Residents of Irebami Unity CDA under Alimosho Local Government Area, had been living in palpable anxiety as armed groups invaded the community using motorbikes and dispossessing defenceless citizens of their mobile phones, cash and other valuable belongings at gun points.

The residents of Abiola Adeyemi Street and adjoining streets were highly disturbed and traumatized by the incessant armed robbery attacks that occured in the community for the past few months.

It was gathered that in an attempt to escape,the daredevil armed robbers shoot sporadically into the air and at a particular incident which occurred on the 26th of June,2024 three residents were directly shot at but no life was lost.

But reacting on the prompt responses and timely intervention in restoring sanity, Chairman of Irebami Unity CDA, Prince Noah Abiola lauded the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Mr. Adegoke Fayoade for the deployment of tactical professional in discharging civic responsibility of securing lives and properties of the people in the borough and the State.

Abiola who doubles as the Project Coordinator of the Joint Community Development Association, Alimosho Ward A, noted that a renewed collaboration has been established between the police and the residents of the community for robust engagements, in order to have more effective working relationship to make neighbouring communities and Lagos State safer.

He said “The CP on getting intelligence report and proper briefing of the chaotic situation, quickly mobilized the Divisional Police Officer at IKOTUN and the Head of Tactical Squad to hold a strategic meeting with the community leader and to form a collaborative alliance between the police and the community members to flush out bad elements within the community.

“We wish to specifically thank the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Adegoke Fayoade for living up to expectations and restoring hope back to the people as at the time the residents are already losing hope in the sincerity and capability of the police to secure their lives and protect their properties.

“We equally thank the D.P.O.Ikotun and Head of the tactical Squad for the gallant display of bravery and capacity to deal with all criminal elements troubling our community.”

The Chairman while commending the resilience, commitment and passion of the gallant officers of the Nigerian Police Force, further identified the challenges of logistics, mobility and lack of other necessary working tools which the State and Federal Government urgently need to adequately address for the officers and men to be able to serve effectively.

He also admonished that politicians should desist from sponsoring thugs, unnecessary manipulations, giving political protection to suspected criminals and encouraging hooliganism within the communities in the State, even as he advised that the political class should endeavour to deliver good governance to the people and work sensibly to bring impactful infrastructural development to the society.

The Chairman called on the Nigerian youths to stay out of illicit drugs and dangerous substances that could push them to needless crimes and criminalities.

While appealing to the conscience of the Nigerian youths not to give up on their country , Abiola affirmed that there is no place like home, rather the young ones should be more committed and actively involve themselves in ideological politics to effect the most desired changes they want to witness in the society.

On the recent protest on bad governance embarked on by the youths, he stated that”Yes, it is within the legitimate right of citizens to protest, but such protest must be done peacefully and should never result to violence or destruction of public or private properties.

“The fundamental human rights of other citizens should not be equally breached in the course of carrying out any legitimate protest.
Together we can build a new nation of our dreams,hopes and aspirations.

He concluded by saying “Police is not our enemies but Indeed Police are our friends, let’s work together to build a new world of peace and prosperity in our own generation.”
