Ikotun CDA Embarks On General Survey Master Plan To Prevent Flooding, Erosion 

Following the lackluster attitude to address issues associated with flooding in the vicinity by relevant government agencies  ,  residents of Irebami Unity Community Development Association, Ikotun,  Lagos , has embarked on a general survey master plan for standard drainage channels in furtherance to prevent future disaster.

Irebami Unity CDA ,is situated in  Alimosho Ward “A” ,Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Due to negligence on the part of the local and state  government authorities; with the rainy season fast approaching,the exercise which commenced over the weekend by executives of the CDA, led by its Chairman, Prince Noah Abiola was aimed to prevent flooding and erosion.

 

Speaking on the developmental community project, which was singlehandedly executed by the executives, Abiola noted that”As the leader of the IREBAMI UNITY CDA ,in Alimosho Ward “A” and my expertise in Urban & Regional Planning, I couldn’t stand the deplorable state of infrastructure in my community & environ due to government neglect of the entire area.

 

“It is disheartening to watch members of my community been faced with serious environmental challenge of perennial flooding for over 3 decades without any government intervention.

“So I decided to embark on a General Survey Master plan for standard drainage channels to solve the problem of perennial flooding across the community.

The Chairman reiterated that since the advert of democracy in 1999, there had been no infrastructural development in the community, adding that the state of social  amenities in the entire area was  deplorable to the extent that one feels ashamed to live in the community.

“As you can rightly observe that there is no government presence in the whole area and the Local Government/LCDA is in a complete mess.”

According to him, the drainage challenge and the devastating issue of perennial flooding in the community has been in existence since  1994.

Despite series of petitions and Save Our Soul messages to the three tiers of government, Abiola pointed out that “We need a complete overhauling of the infrastructural architecture of the entire community and the government at all levels must be alive to their responsibilities in all regards.

While expressing positive response from the state government, in line with the general survey master plan for the community, the Chairman stressed that “We are already having meaningful engagements with the State Government and particularly the Lagos State Infrastructure and Maintenance Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA).

“We believe that the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu will take up this monumental challenge with a determination to proffering lasting solution to the environmental setback and infrastructural deficits in our community.

Abiola added that “We are so optimistic that solution will come very soon as the entire communities through the Joint CDA in Alimosho Ward “A” have collectively resolved to work together in unity and love for our community to achieve good and commendable results very soon.

 

He urged residents of the community saying,”I advise that they should stop pouring solid waste materials in the gutters and they should also desist from discharging their sewage carelessly on the streets as this could cause epidemic.”
