IKORODU ROAD RECONSTRUCTION: LASG Announces Partial Closure Of Ketu BRT Lane, Set To Mark World Tourism Day Sept 27

As part of the ongoing reconstruction of Ikorodu Road, (Mile 12 – Ketu), the Lagos State Government has announced that there will be partial closure of a section of the BRT Lane at Ketu for 14 working days, effective from Monday, September 14, 2020.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the partial closure is to allow the contractor handling the project to commence construction of additional Relief Culverts across the road at Ketu Bus Stop from Monday 14th of September, 2020.

He explained that the BRT buses that operate on the Ketu axis will be diverted to the service lane from Oluwalogbon Street Junction during the construction period, adding that the personnel of Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA, would be available to direct traffic and ensure the free flow of vehicular movements.

Oladeinde, therefore, solicited for the cooperation and support of the BRT buses that ply the corridor, stressing that the project is aimed at finding a lasting solution to the ever-busy road to achieve objectives of the government’s traffic management and transportation policy.

However, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf has said that the State Government has concluded plans to join tourism stakeholders across the globe to celebrate the Year 2020 World Tourism Day (WTD) on Sunday, 27th September, 2020.

Akinbile-Yusuf, who made the disclosure, when she hosted the Ambassador Ikechi Uko-led team from Akwaaba African Travel Market and Atqnews in Alausa, Ikeja, added that the State’s focus is to fashion out strategies for post-COVID-19 recovery and the development of domestic tourism.

The Commissioner told the visiting team that all the five divisions of the State would be involved in the celebrations of this year’s WTD as Lagos is targeting grassroots participation, assuring that tourism stakeholders would also be carried along in the planned activities for the celebration.

Responding on behalf of the delegation, Ambassador Ikechi Uko thanked the Ministry for hosting the team and stated that the purpose of the visit was to acquaint the Ministry with its planned activities for the forthcoming WTD celebrations.

He explained that the World Tourism Day is important to the Nation as it was a Nigerian, Late Mr. Ignatius Atigbi, who moved the motion to make September 27th the World Tourism Day.
