The Imo State Government has sacked the General Manager of the state-owned football club, Heartland FC of Owerri, Mr. Chukwudi Ifeanyi.
According to a letter dated October 15, 2019 and signed by the Secretary of the State Government (SSG) Uche Onyegbucha, the Nigeria Professional Football League/ League Management Company was informed of the ‘indefinite suspension of the general manager, without any reason given.
The letter which was obtained by DAILY INDEPENDENT, the Imo State Government said that all dealings to the club should be directed to the Board of Heartland Football Club.
The letter, in which chairman of Club Owners Association and Chairman of Imo State Football Association, were copied, urged the general public to discontinue any issue regarding the club with him.
Part of the letter read: “I have received a letter of suspension of Mr. Chukwudi Ifeanyi, the erstwhile General Manager of Heartland Football Club of Owerri.
Consequent upon this letter, Mr. Chukwudi Ifeanyi Stands disengaged from representing the club.
“Further dealings with the club should be directed to the Board of Heartland Football Club. Please find attached herewith a copy of the reference letter.
“Accept the assurance of my office.”
All efforts to reach the general manager proved abortive, but we gathered that his sack emanated from the office of the governor.
