Iheanacho Seals Celtic FC Deal, Terminates Sevilla Contract By Mutual Consent.

Kelechi Iheanacho, the 28-year-old Nigerian striker, has officially signed for Celtic FC on a free transfer after mutually terminating his contract with Sevilla FC.

Iheanacho’s contract with Sevilla was originally set to run until June 2026, but due to limited impact and playing time at Sevilla, where he appeared 11 times and scored three goals, the contract was ended by mutual consent just before the transfer deadline.

He spent part of the previous season on loan at Middlesbrough in the English Championship, scoring once in 15 appearances.

Celtic secured Iheanacho on a one-year deal with an option for a further year, ahead of their Europa League registration deadline, seeing him as a crucial signing to bolster their attacking options following the departure of Adam Idah to Swansea City. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who previously coached Iheanacho at Leicester City, expressed high confidence in Iheanacho’s talent, work-rate, and potential contribution, believing the player to be in his peak years and capable of making a significant impact at the club.

Iheanacho’s move to Celtic marks a chance to revive his career after a challenging stint in Spain, and he joins Celtic as they aim to defend their domestic crown and compete in Europe. Iheanacho started his career at Manchester City and made a name at Leicester City, where he had significant successes including winning the FA Cup. He also has extensive international experience with Nigeria’s Super Eagles, featuring in over 60 games and scoring important goals in African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.
