Historic OPHK Tour: UK , Germany Eye Capacity Building Against Terrorism

The Defence Attachés of the United Kingdom and Germany to Nigeria, Brigadier Tom Harper and Colonel Boris Bovecamp, reaffirmed their nations’ ongoing support and collaboration in combating terrorism and insurgency.

This commitment was voiced during their landmark visit to the Headquarters of the Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri on Wednesday, February 18.

He praised the Nigerian Armed Forces’ work in countering terrorism in the North East via Operation HADIN KAI and reaffirmed the UK’s dedication to expanded training through the British Military Advisory Team (BMATT).Colonel Boris Bovecamp, Germany’s Defence Attaché to Nigeria, echoed this by outlining opportunities for future cooperation, particularly in capacity building and regional initiatives to boost operational effectiveness against terrorism.

Theatre Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar expressed gratitude for the UK and Germany’s vital role in counter-insurgency, noting how their training has sharpened troops’ skills against emerging threats.

He pointed to potential future areas like technical expertise, equipment, and logistics support.The visit wrapped up with signing the visitors’ register, exchanging souvenirs, and a group photo.
