Gunmen Shot Customs Comptroller In Ikotun , As Group Urges CP Lagos To Beef Up Security

There was palpable tension in Ikotun axis under Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State over the weekend, as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers reportedly shot a top personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service in an alleged kidnap attempt .

The customs personnel, it was gathered has the rank of a Comptroller and was shot within his ribs on Friday evening .

DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA gathered that the customs official, name withheld was attacked while on his way home within his residential street gate. He was able to escape for the assailants but was shot on the spot , alongside his driver .

According to impeccable sources, the customs chief had his birthday celebration party same day of the attack.

It was also gathered that the driver was also shot on his arm , while personal effects and some amount of money in a bag were taken away.

Both the customs boss and his driver are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Lagos

Recall that records of suspected kidnapped cases had occurred at Saint Mary Bus Stop Governor Road,, LASU – Isheri Road and Council Bus Stop all within the ikotun axis.

Apparently disturbed with the rising cases of insecurity within the Ikotun borough, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the aegis of Anti Drug Impact Foundation, has called on the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fakayode Adegoke Mustapha on the insecurity of the State.

Founder of a Non Governmental Organization, Olayiwola Ibrahim, expressed dissatisfaction over the issues of insecurity and drug abuse within the community, saying that the situation demands urgent attention by the government and police.

The Activist who made this call during his visit to the customs chief reiterated that the rise of robbery cases around Ikotun axis has become a menace in the community and state.

While urging the CP to improve on tactics and surveillance toward curbing insecurity, Olayiwola stated that the importance of security is to save lives and properties of the citizens stressing the need for more logistics for officers and men of the force to transport themselves to distress call scenes.

He said provision of logistics and deployment of personnel is very important in order to save lives people within the community during distress call linked to insecurity.

Olayiwola also called for more collaboration and cooperation of the surrounding community leaders in Lagos State , urging them to be more vigilant.

He further, advocated that ‘When you note any form of misery, or suspicious about any movement within the locality, you should please report to the community leaders and also involved the police, that’s the way we can all conquer the evils perpetrators.”
