The duo of Okpako Daniella and Adeniji Joshua, students of Government Technical College, Ikotun, have won the Year 2023 Inter-Collegiate Occupational Trades Quiz Competition, an annual event designed to showcase the brilliance of Technical Colleges Students in Lagos State.
Speaking at the event held recently at the Government Technical College, Agidingbi, on Monday, the Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Ms. Moronke Azeez said the competition is organised annually to showcase the occupational trades in Technical Colleges to stakeholders because Technical and vocational education can stand the test of time and determines the future of all professions.
Azeez, represented by the Director of Partnership Department, LASTVEB, Mr. Olawale Oluwo, added that graduates of Technical Colleges have the option of starting their businesses, furthering their education or joining industries depending on their choice.
She urged the students to take their studies seriously because technical education is the bedrock of every economy, stressing that they should all consider themselves winners as the competition sought to bring out the best in all participants.
The Executive Secretary noted that Daniella and Toluwani, both students of Government Technical College Ikotun, had displayed exceptional knowledge and critical thinking skills throughout the competition, outshining their counterparts from the other colleges across the state.
Azeez reiterated that their victory underscored their school’s commitment to nurturing and developing talented individuals who excel in both theory and practicals.
The Director of Co-Curricular and Gender Unit, LASTVEB, Mrs. Oghale Osah described the competition as one of the ways to nurture talents and foster academic excellence.
She opined that the Government Technical Colleges have consistently produced remarkable graduates who are employers of labour, just as she revealed that the students will soon participate in a Literary and Debating exercise to further strengthen academic excellence in Technical Colleges.
Participants engaged in a series of stimulating challenges covering a wide range of subjects, including Basic Electricity and Construction Trades, General Knowledge, English and Mathematics. This is to enable the students to acquire a well-rounded education and prepare them to succeed in various academic and career paths.
