The Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri on Wednesdays inaugurated the remodelled Onopa High Court Complex named after Justice K.D Ongbuku, even as he launched the court digitisation process.
Diri stated that many countries have completed the digitization of court records, while many others are moving towards accomplishing this goal.
The Governor noted that the act of remembrance and honour that the labour, sacrifice and dedication of heroes past shall not be in vain adding that electronic filing of documents and web-based access to court materials has become commonplace in many developed legal jurisdictions around the world.
While describing the court remodelling as yet another land-mark achievement in the history of the Bayelsa State Judiciary, Diri reiterated that the major benefits of digitizing court records are that documents in electronic format can be moved more rapidly and less expensively than in a paper-based system, thus saving time and resources.
He pointed out that:”I wish to congratulate the Bayelsa State judiciary and in particular the Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Kate Abiri, CON, for the construction of this splendid building. This edifice is ample testament that Honourable Kate Abiri will find an alternative thriving career in project management, post retirement.
“And, it is also most fitting that one of the longest servicing Chief Judges of the country, should superintend the naming of this fantastic building after our pioneer Chief Judge, HON. JUSTICE K.D UNGBUKU. I see this as our act of remembrance and honour that the labour, sacrifice and dedication of our heroes past shall not be in vain.
“I am happy that this task has been completed and is being inaugurated within the tenure of the outgoing Chief Judge, who has shown a lot of drive, innovation and prudence in managing the resources of the Judiciary and making it one of the most forwarding looking in the country.
“This impressive new building, with its modern design and construction, is a mark of how much the state judiciary has progressed on the watch of Honourable Abiri. Electronic filing of documents and web-based access to court materials has become commonplace in many developed legal jurisdictions around the world.

The Governor of Bayelsa State while speaking at the inauguration of the remodelled High Court Complex in Onopa, Yenagoa, which had in attendance, Justice Ama Diri, wife of the governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Fred Agbedi, member representing Sagbama-Ekeremor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, speaker, Bayelsa State House of Assembly represented by the Chief Whip of the House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku Obiyai, HRM King Bubaraye Dakolo, Agada IV, Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama kingdom and Chairman, Bayelsa State council of traditional rulers, and other top government functionaries.
Meanwhile the governor has flagged off the Bayelsa State People’s Democratic Party campaign saying that “From the Presidential to the National Assembly to the State Assembly, it is PDP all the way.
The Governor of Bayelsa State spoke at the Bayelsa West campaign flag off in Sagbama town where party flags were presented to candidates of the PDP including Senator Seriake Dickson for Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Hon. Fred Agbedi for Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency.
“We don’t have governorship election in this state in February, our governorship election will be sometime in November. So, we have four elections that our party is contesting for, which are the Presidential, Senatorial, House of Representatives and all the Six State House of Assembly in Sagbama and Ekeremor, and make no mistakes, our candidates are the best.
“I’ve only come here to join our leaders of Bayelsa West to thank you for the support you have shown, and I believe that you will continue to support us. Sagbama and Ekeremor is a “no go” area, all our constituencies are totally for the PDP.”
