FMOT To Mediate On MWUN/IOCs Face Off, Fixes Wednesday For Crucial Meeting

The Federal Ministry of Transportation has invited the leadership of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) for a meeting on Wednesday 30th July 2019 in Abuja , over the lingering face off between the union and the International Oil Companies (IOCs).

Recall that the union had suspended a three day warning strike from the nation’s ports.

The refusal of the IOCs to comply with the payment has allegedly lingered for about a year.

The Nigerian Ports Authority last week suspended the operations of the IOCs in connection with the development.

According to a letter of invitation signed by S. U Galandichi, Director, Maritime Service for the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry , made available to DAILYFOCUS NEWS ONLINE on Tuesday, stressed the need to proffer solution to the crisis.

It read:  “Sequel to the two weeks ultimatum given by the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria to embark on a strike as a result of failure of stevedoring contractors firms to pay their workers, there is an urgent need to address the lingering issue.

“Accordingly, I am direct to invite you for a meeting to discuss and find lasting solution to the issue,” it added.

When contacted President General of the union,Comrade Adewale Adeyanju confirmed the meeting to our correspondent ,even as he added that meeting for Wednesday is centred on the lingering non payment of wages for dockworkers by the multinationals.
