FG Grants Amnesty To 2,600 Prisoners Over COVID19 Pandemic

The Federal Government on Thursday, granted amnesty to no fewer than 2,600 prisoners.

Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, announced that the government has decided to grant amnesty to the inmates at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

He said those to be freed include sick and old inmates, adding that the move was part of measures to decongest prison facilities in the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The inmates, who are serving various terms for crimes against the society, would also be processed and released later in the days ahead.
