FG Dismisses 15 Correctional Service Officers, Sanctions 216 Others.

The Federal Government has dismissed 15 officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for serious misconduct and breaches of Service regulations, while sanctioning 216 others.

This decision followed the conclusion of investigations by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) into 231 disciplinary cases involving NCoS personnel.

According to a statement released Thursday in Abuja by Umar Abubakar, Deputy Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer, the cases were referred to the Board by the Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee after thorough inquiries and due process. The Board approved various disciplinary actions to uphold discipline and integrity within the Service.

“Fifteen officers were dismissed outright, 59 had their ranks reduced due to confirmed professional violations, and 42 received written warnings. Sixteen personnel were cleared of all allegations, while seven remain suspended pending further investigation.

In one notable case, an officer was suspended and recommended for prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to the severity of the offense.

Additionally, eight officers were compulsorily retired, and one had their rank reversed with orders to refund earnings received under the wrongful rank.

Under the leadership of Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunde Ojo, the CDCFIB reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high ethical and professional standards. Controller General of Corrections Sylvester Nwacuhe called on the public for cooperation, assuring that disciplinary processes will be conducted fairly and in strict accordance with regulations.
