FG Begins Implementation Of ASUU Agreement On Salary Increase

The Federal Government has commenced the implementation of key welfare components of its renegotiated agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), reaffirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR’s commitment to the welfare of academic staff and the stability of Nigeria’s university system under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, announced the implementation of the 40 per cent increase in the Consolidated Academic Allowance (CAA) for ASUU members, effective 1 January 2026, in line with the agreement reached with the union.

According to a statement by Boriowo Folasade, Director, Press and Public Relations for the ministry, some federal universities have already reflected the approved increment in salary payments, as part of measures to ensure uniform implementation, noting that all Federal Universities are being formally directed to fully cascade the increment across their payroll structures.

The Minister also issued a directive to Vice Chancellors on strict compliance with the implementation framework for the Consolidated Tools Allowance (CATA). He noted that CATA has been duly captured and circularised by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) and incorporated into the 2026 budget.

Dr. Alausa urged university managements to utilise available resources to ensure prompt payment, stressing that timely implementation will enhance staff morale, strengthen teaching and research, and improve learning outcomes.

The Federal Government reiterates its commitment to honouring agreements, promoting industrial harmony, and improving quality education nationwide.
