FAVFFN Relaunches Nationwide Effort To Combat Corruption In Nigeria’s Port Operations

The Freight Anti-Corruption Vanguards of Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (FAVFFN) has officially reinstated its national operational framework, renewing its commitment to fighting pervasive corruption in Nigeria’s freight forwarding, customs, and logistics supply chains.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, on Friday , FAVFFN National Chairman Dr. Increase Uche highlighted that the resurgence of the group responds to the growing wave of extortion, unethical practices, and abuses by officials at Nigerian ports.

The Chairman pledged continued dedication to protecting government revenue, easing trade bottlenecks, and fostering a robust logistics sector for the nation’s economic future.

“The corruption challenges in cargo clearance have become too widespread to overlook,” Uche said.

He noted that “Our mission is to restore integrity, transparency, and professionalism throughout the freight forwarding industry.

Assuring stakeholders of the group’s collaboration with relevant authorities, the former President of NAGAFF reiterated that ”Supported by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, FAVFFN recently hosted a training workshop focused on anti-corruption awareness. This collaborative effort underscores the essential role of government-industry partnerships in tackling corruption within the sector.

Similarly, Uche lamented the ineffectiveness of the 2006 port concession reforms, which failed to achieve lasting transparency and competitiveness, leading to cargo diversions to neighboring nations.

FAVFFN Chairman also outlined five core objectives to fight corruption at its root, focusing on ethical compliance, empowerment of freight forwarders as “Integrity Champions,” and thorough investigations into malpractice across the trade chain—from documentation to last-mile delivery.

He said “The Vanguard will also profile corrupt officials to aid reform efforts.The group called on all port agencies, particularly the Nigeria Customs Service, to fully back this renewed campaign. “We must collectively commit to rebuilding a logistics system grounded in fairness and ethical standards,” Uche urged.

The FAVFFN’s frontman added that the reactivation signals a vital move toward purifying Nigeria’s port operations, with plans to intensify education and enforcement among emerging freight forwarders to halt corruption’s advance.
