Taiwan’s largest container operator, Evergreen Marine Corporation, has placed a massive order for 23 container ships at two Chinese shipyards through its Singapore-based subsidiary, Evergreen Marine (Asia).
The announcement yesterday, revealed that the deal includes seven 5,900 TEU vessels at up to $82 million each and 16 smaller feeder ships at up to $56 million each, totaling $1.47 billion.

The larger ships will be built at Yangzijiang’s Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding Co., while the feeders go to CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company.
This adds to Evergreen’s existing order book of 53 ships, pushing the total to 76 vessels valued at over $11 billion. No delivery timelines were specified, but expect two years for the larger units and 1-2 years for the feeders.
