The Executive Chairman, Ajeromi- Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, Hon. Fatai Ayoola said on Monday, that the ravishing coronavirus and the ENDSAR protest last year , stalled the most populous Street Jamz in the community tagged “Rumble In The Jungle.”
The annual event which is organised by youths of Kehinde-Bolaji Streets, Aiyetoro, Ajegunle Lagos, has been suspended for over a decade.
Ayoola as part of his campaign promises for youths of Aiyetoro, vowed to revamp the cannival if voted into office but apparently disappointed over failure to revive the jamboree, the youths of the community have threatened to vote against him ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
But speaking in his office exclusively , as part of some of the unfulfilled promises for the first tenure, the Chairman noted that the rising insecurity challenges will further halt any plans to hold the prestigious cannival.
Ayoola, while receiving an award from Corporate News.com, as “Africa Role Model Leadership Award”, the grassroot political urged people of Aiyetoro to be calm, saying the covid-19 led to the new normal of all spares of life .
According to him, issues of insecurity in the country can be escalated at any giving period and the event is such that attract mammoth crowd; thus can be hijacked by thugs or hoodlums.
He said” The cannival cannot kick start because of the new normal and when we made that promises there was nothing like coronavirus,there was nothing like Endsars.
” The security challenges in the country is quite high and for us to allow such an event to happen, a number of security measures have to be put in place.
“Now covid is winding up, the space is being opened and it is something we are going to look into after due consultations with relevant security agencies because the bad boys are taking advantage of our simplicity to foment trouble within the vicinity and it’s a great concern for all of us in the local government area”, the Chairman stressed.
He also disclosed that a total of sixteen vehicles have been deployed to security agencies under his watch as part of measures to boost surveillance operations within and around the community, saying that the second coming of the new administration would further enhanced infrastructural development in the society.
