EID-EL-KABIR : AIG Maritime Directs CP Port Authority Police To Ensure Protection Of Assets, Passengers

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Maritime Police Command, FHQ Annex, Lagos, AIG Olofu A. Rhoda has directed top officers not to lower their guards in the deployment of personnel and equipment for the protection and preservation of life and the nation’s critical infrastructures in their area of responsibilities, especially during the holidays as miscreants may want to use the period to cause havoc.

The AIG ordered the Commissioners of Police, Port Authority Police, Eastern and Western Commands, National Inland Waterways Authority Police (NIWA) and the Force Marine Officer to ensure protection of lives and properties at sea during the Sallah holidays .

According to a statement,ASP Ehimmode Rowland Adewumi, Ag. Police Public Relations Officer, Maritime Police Command, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos in a statement on Saturday 15th June, 2024, AIG Olofu Rhoda further directed all NIWA commanders and State Marine Officers to enforce restrictions on boats and vessels operating without life saving vest/jackets and other life saving apparatuses.

She stated further that boats operators must be warned to avoid overloading and ensure that no passenger obstructs the view of boats man while on board.

In addition, the AIG noted that passengers should be advised to furnish details of their next of kin before embarking on any journey on the nation’s inland waterways.

AIG Olofu concluded by advocating for continuous collaboration and synergy between the maritime stakeholders to ensure safe, peaceful and secure environment for all.

 

Speaking during her address to heads of Command and Formations under the Maritime Police Command to felicitate Islam community globally on the occasion of Eid-El Kabir celebrations, the AIG urged Muslim faithfuls to imbibe the culture of love and sacrifice that the season exemplifies.
