EFCC Threatens To File Appeal Over Oduah’s Ruling, As ASCON Board Lauds Magu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has threatened to file an appeal against the ruling of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Monday’s verdict on the vacation of an interim forfeiture order regarding some assets traced to former Aviation Minister, Senator Stella Oduah.

The EFCC in a statement expressed dissatisfaction to the ruling saying it will file an appeal against it accordingly.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, in the ruling, struck out the EFCC’s counter-affidavit on the ground that it “was filed out of time without first seeking the court’s leave for an extension of time to file”.

The statement said:” Attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a ruling of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, delivered on Monday, June 8, 2020, on the vacation of an interim forfeiture order regarding some assets traced to former Aviation Minister, Senator Stella Oduah.

“Justice Inyang Ekwo, in the ruling, struck out the EFCC’s counter-affidavit on the ground that it “was filed out of time without first seeking the court’s leave for an extension of time to file”.

“The EFCC is dissatisfied with the ruling and will file an appeal against it accordingly.

Meanwhile, the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, ASCON, on Monday, commended the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu for his efforts towards ridding the country of the scourge of corruption.

Speaking during a working visit to Magu at the Commission’s headquarters, ASCON’s board chairman, Honourable Nduka Anyanwu stated that the sterling efforts of the Acting Chairman of the Commission in making Nigeria a better place are not going unnoticed among Nigerians and the global community. “We are aware of your achievements.

Nigerians are proud of you and are praying for you,” he said.

The ASCON’S board chair who came in company of a board member and Commandant, Police Staff College, AIG. Shola David and Director, ASCON, Abuja Liaison Office, Abdul. A. Rabiu, explained that the visit was to further strengthen the good working relationship between the EFCC and ASCON.

He appealed to the Commission to assist it with an office building, for its training, from the properties forfeited by fraudsters and other corrupt elements in the society. Such a gesture, Anyanwu said, will save the government the cost of acquisition of such a facility.
