Double Deck Cargo Boat Catches Fire In Rivers State, As Many Feared Dead

Many persons have feared dead following a double deck boat fire in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State.

 

The boat, popularly known as market boat, was transporting traders to an unknown destination when it caught fire at Bonny/ Bille/Nembe Jetty at Port Harcourt township area.

 

The fire reportedly started around 10am on Monday  morning and is still raging at the time of filing this report.

However, the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained but onlookers suspected that a careless smoker may have thrown unspent cigarette into the boat.

Eyewitnesses said a woman and three of her children on board were feared dead.

 

This is the fifth fire incident in the State since the start of the weekend.

 

Eyewitnesses said the double deck cargo boat usually conveys over 50 persons and goods.

 

The fire was yet to be put out as at the time of filing this report.
