Dockworkers, Shipping Branches Pass Vote Of Confidence On Comrade Adeyanju For Second Term Re-Election

Members of the Dockworkers and Shipping & Forwarding Branches , Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on Monday, passed a vote of confidence on the incumbent President General of the Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, over numerous achievements recorded in that three and half years in office.

The dockworkers branch also honoured the MWUN boss with three awards in symbolic style as part of solidarity for a second term.

The labour workers in large numbers chanted solidarity songs with inscription “One Good Turn Deserves Another “ , Solidarity Solidarity!!Solidarity!!, Continuity ! Continuity !! Continuity!!! On a scream banner at the national secretariat of the union in Lagos.

Convener of the Observed Dockworkers, Comrade Babajide Alfred , said the union boss has been tested and trusted in the last eight years as Dockworkers Branch President, adding that he has been a man of peace in the maritime industry.

“It’s not about passing vote of confidence on him alone but continuity. There has been industrial peace , sanity, enlightenment from him because he has been in the system to understand what to do for workers at the right time.

“Concerning welfare, he has done so much for the labour workers and that is why we felt we should let him know that he deserved another term.

President of the branch , Comrade Tajudeen Ohize commended the union’s boss for the support and encouragement toward workers welfare.

According to him, the dockworkers are clamouring for his re-election based on his wealth of knowledge and experience on union related issues.

On his part , former Branch President, Shipping and Forwarding Branch, Comrade Uche Igwe-Onu stated that there is no contest come 2021 , saying “There is no issue of 2nd Contest for the top position.

Igwe-Onu who is the current Treasurer, noted that Comrade Adeyanju second term bid is already a done deal because of his antecedents.

 

While reacting on the solidarity support by the branches, Adeyanju said the three awards must be dedicated to all national executives of the union because of their massive support towards ensuring progress and industrial peace recorded in the last couple of years as President General.

Adeyanju also told the gathering that
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is set to commence training for dockworkers and seafarers across the seaports .

The training, he said would commences in November, 2020, noting that NIMASA would engage between 400 to 500 dockworkers and seafarers under the scheme.

 

Adeyanju said the training ought to have commenced before the global health crises and the recent #EndSARS protest but added that all is set for the training.

 

The MWUN boss quipped that the training will be extended to the Seafarers branch of the union but intended to start with the dockworkers.

“If not because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the recent #EndSARS protest that disrupted activities, NIMASA and the union have partnered to reel out training program for workers.

“About 400 to 500 dockworkers are to be trained and they are going to start this month of November. We have penciled the names and sent to NIMASA.

 

Adeyanju also appreciated the efforts of the apex maritime regulatory body for such an initiative.

He said, “We thank the management of NIMASA for coming out boldly say they need to start the training of dockworkers in all fields of operation.

“NIMASA is on that of the seafarers too but they want to start with the dockworkers.

“The training is going to cover all the seaports of the federation.
